Side projects

Small, useful products are a good place to test an idea without first forming a steering committee. This is where I keep the ones that made it beyond the notebook.

Recipe Scanner

Recipe Scanner turns physical recipe cards and cookbook pages into useful digital recipes. Take a photo and it uses Gemini to extract the ingredients and instructions, ready to organise or export as Schema.org JSON-LD or Cooklang.

It solves a small but familiar problem: keeping the recipes worth cooking without manually typing out somebody's handwriting.

Calendar Status

Calendar Status keeps Slack in sync with the current Google Calendar event, including the title, emoji and end time, while protecting private events.

It is deliberately small: connect Google Calendar and Slack once, then let the app give your team useful context without another manual status update.
