A summer with cricket in it

Cricket season gives the summer a shape that has very little to do with my work calendar. I appreciate that more after a week spent thinking about software.

There's a lot happening around agentic AI at work, and it's easy to carry on thinking about it after I've stopped for the day. What else could I give an agent? Was that review thorough enough? Would a different approach have been quicker? Interesting questions, but they can occupy as much room as I let them.

Cricket offers something else to pay attention to for a while. I don't want to squeeze a management lesson out of it. I've done enough of that on this blog. Sometimes an interest is valuable precisely because it doesn't need to be connected to the job.

The heat has been part of the summer too. It makes the prospect of an evening at the laptop less appealing, which is probably helping me keep some distance from the endless list of things I could build.

I like that there are still parts of the year I look forward to for familiar reasons. Tools change quickly. My interest in having some cricket in the summer has been considerably more consistent.

There will be plenty of time for another experiment when the evenings draw in. I'm happy for a few of them to stay as ideas for now.
