The Myth of the 10x Developer

I'm sceptical of measuring a developer by how much code they personally produce. A fast implementation can leave everyone else with weeks of awkward maintenance. A well-timed question can prevent that implementation being needed at all.

It's harder to count the second contribution, which doesn't make it less valuable. I want a team where people make one another more effective. Celebrating the person who is always rescuing a project can obscure why it keeps needing rescue.
